Nokia X – Android phones confirmed

Nokia has finally confirmed the rumors about their Android powered phones coming in the range of Nokia “X” series. Although skeptics had said that Microsoft will never allow it but we kept saying that for Nokia to survive, Microsoft will adopt. And it has finally happened. But do note that these will be full fledge Android phones and will be running a custom flavor of the android minus the google services in favor of Microsoft services. i.e. instead of Google, Gmail or Play store you will find Bing, Outlook and Windows Market Place like features.. very much like what Amazon does with Kindle. The screenshots currently show off a very WP8 Tile like interface given to this Android flavor. The biggest set back in this might be that they are not allowing Google play store.

The X-series phones coming now will be equipped with 512MB RAM, dual-core Snapdragon CPU. There are three phones in the series which have been confirmed:

  • Nokia X : 4-inch WVGA screen with 4GB internal storage with 3MP back camera. There is also support for a microSD card. This is a dual SIM phone. It will cost 90 Euros.
  • Nokia X+ : Similar to Nokia X but with additional internal storage costing 100 Euros.
  • Nokia XL : 5-inch WVGA screen and a 5MP camera with flash costing 110 Euros.
